| Purpose |
| A New Day's Reception and Assessment Centers (RAC) are designed to divert first-offender youth ages 8 to 17 who've committed status offenses or low level misdemeanors away from juvenile incarceration and towards community-based services. NOTE: all referrals are made by law enforcement personnel. |
| Youth Eligible for Services |
Youth taken into custody for a status offense (i.e. illegal behavior of a minor, although that same behavior would not be criminal if committed by an adult). Youth committing non-violent misdemeanors and those taken into protective custody Common types of referrals include: Runaway from home or placement Criminal trespass, shoplifting, disorderly conduct Classroom disruption leading to removal from school and truancy

| Services Provided to Youth |
Intake identifies youth and gathers family information for demographic purposes Crisis Intervention works with both the youth and parents towards resolving immediate concerns Risk Assessment gathers information about the youth's current situation and possibility of reoffending. Therapy for both individuals and families is available if requested. Short-term Shelter if needed as an alternative to the streets for youth who can't return home Diversion from Juvenile Justice through this preventative and community based program. Referrals through Community Support Services to additional community agencies and resources.NOTE: Uncooperative youth or those who refuse community intervention are referred to Juvenile Probation.
